Songclip, a startup trying to help app developers use licensed music in social and dating to fitness and games apps. The outfit recently signed a deal with Warner Music Group, 3 months after raising $11m funding in March.
The multi-year partnership will bring WMG’s catalogue into Songclip’s API which is used by its clients. For the label, it’s a way to get its music into many more apps without having to strike individual licensing deals – “to dramatically expand its social licensing footprint” as its SVP of new business ventures Alex Kamins put it.
Songclip will now begin the work of bringing WMG’s catalogue into its library of 5-30 second music clips.
