A hike in royalty rates for non-interactive music streaming has been approved by the US Copyright Royalty Board. Non-Interactive streaming from apps or platforms like iHeartRadio, Pandora, etc., that offer webcasting and personal radio services to users.
The new rates are as follows;
- 0.28 cents royalty for subscription streams; from 0.26 cents.
- 0.22 cents royalty for free streams; from 0.21 cents.
According to Billboard, and figures from RIAA, non-interactive streaming generated $487m in the first half of 2021; this figure includes figures from satellite radio broadcasters like SiriusXM and other music-focused cable broadcasters. This figure represents 7.8% of the overall music revenue of the same period.
