GFRé Music, a London-based label recruits Nigerian talents for its new single Hold Me Down.
The sound was crafted by GFRé Music’s producers in Madrid, vocals by members of the Nigerian hip-hop collective BHP – President Zik, Ross, and Abyssinia – in Jos, and engineered by Crys Garage the label’s engineer based in Nigeria.
The result is a suave, intimate trap-soul ballade that reminds one of a 2000s boy band. The three smooth, carefully layered voices, blended with the sparkling sounds Marvin Beats produced, definitely trigger some R&B nostalgia. The song is written by BHP; the track is an ode to the ride-or-dies, to that one love that holds us down.
Committed to championing emerging talent and creating a cross-cultural platform that spreads beyond the internet, GFRé Music, the hip-hop branch of London imprint Goldfangs Rosé Music, is slowly becoming a reliable source of fresh global sounds and dance music.
