Phenyo Louw, better known by his stage name King SA, is a rapper from Kwa-Thema who has been making waves in the South African music scene. He grew up singing in his family choir and then joined his primary school choir. In high school, he would participate in rap battles and also frequented music studios after school.
The 32-year-old said even though he was singing gospel in the choir, he would listen to artists like Zola and Skwatta Kamp and fell in love with hip-hop music.
“I used to listen to their music because it was interesting, and it inspired me to ultimately become an artist,” he said.
In 2012, King SA met his producer Asterista Beats, and he started producing beats for him. His first official single, titled Free Your Mind, entered the airwaves in 2019. The song is about inspiring people to believe in themselves and their dreams.
In 2021, King SA released his first EP, titled First Footprint. The following year, the EP saw a nomination at the City Awards for best newcomer. King SA won best hip-hop artist at Mzansi Art and Music Awards in the same year.
King SA said, “I am elated with everything I have achieved thus far musically, and I am planning to be one of the best artists to ever do it in South Africa.”
After the EP, he released three singles and is currently working on the fourth one with Cassandra Schoeman. It will see its released soon.
