Miguel’s “Sure Thing” has broken the record for the most weeks on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song spent its 76th week on the chart dated May 6, surpassing the previous record of 75 weeks set by Mary J. Blige’s “Be Without You.”

“Sure Thing” hit the airwaves in 2010 as the second single from Miguel’s debut album, All I Want Is You. The song was a hit on the R&B charts, reaching number one for one week. It also crossed over to the pop charts, peaking at number 14.

“Sure Thing” has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to its use on TikTok. The song appeared in over 4 million videos on the social media platform. The increased exposure on TikTok has helped “Sure Thing” to return to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Miguel is grateful for the song’s continued success. “I’m glad that ‘Sure Thing’ still connects and resonates with a new audience,” he said. “More than anything, this achievement is a wild reminder of how things – all across the board – can cycle back into cultural relevance.”

“Sure Thing” is the latest example of a song that has found new life on TikTok. Other songs that have benefited from the platform include Doja Cat’s “Say So,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U,” and “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals.

TikTok is a powerful force in the music industry. The platform has helped to introduce new artists to a wider audience and has given older songs a second chance at success. It will be interesting to see what other songs find new life on TikTok in the future.
