Over the past five years, Reespect, born Grace Hameed has consistently delivered soulful music through a fusion of rap and multiple genres like afrobeats, RnB, and house music. A running theme through her musical career has been to drop these playlist projects of opposing moods or themes. From 2017 to date, Reespect has released 4 installments of these Mood Swing Playlists, and now she braces up for the final one: Mood Swing Playlist, The Finale.
“This compilation is filled with songs I have recorded over the years, that I didn’t put out for various reasons, maybe because I over thought it, lost confidence, or my really short attention span basically,” she continued, “Some of these songs have been released on Soundcloud and simply never made it to mainstream streaming platforms. Others under unique circumstances, through the blockchain as web3 collectibles. The ones available as digital collectibles are a lot more recent than the others and out of the 10 songs 5 are collectibles on various blockchains”
Reespect tackles various emotions on this album, euphoria, depression; heartbreak and mad love; consciousness, mindlessness; confidence, and self doubt. The juxtaposition of these varying emotions lends a certain level of gravity and keenness to the overarching meaning of the project, and where it places in Reespect’s journey. Her execution shows growth, and increased confidence in her abilities as a musician.
The release of Mood Swing Playlist, The Finale signals the end of an era, and the opening of a new chapter as a fledged musician. Reespect has grown into herself and her artistry “This is not for everyone, it’s for those who get it. those who see where we going and want to remember where we’re coming from,” she says.
