SOUTH AFRICA MUSIC REVENUE TO BOUNCE BACK

According to Music Ally, the South African recorded music income – physical music sales and performance rights income – experienced a 2.8% drop in 2020, while the streaming revenue increased percentage, which was enough compensation for the loss.


The managing director of Warner Music South Africa and SVP, strategy, Sub-Saharan Africa, Temi Adeniji doesn’t lose sleep over this I think it’s clear that every market has been impacted by Covid,” she explains on Music Ally’s country profile. “All the trends in South Africa before the pandemic were showing growth which was a real positive. However physical was in decline, so when Covid coincided with the drop in physical revenue we’ve seen that recorded music revenue take a bit of a hit.”
