Label and marketing-tech company Soundplate has been surveying more than 1,000 independent artists about how they work. They found out that 20% of them have already used an AI tool to help them make music, and another 10% say they plan to use AI in the future. This means 70% haven’t and don’t.

A survey of more than 1,500 independent artists last year a survey by TuneCore, 27% had used some form of AI tool – it included uses outside production including artwork, promo assets and fan engagement. Meanwhile a survey of younger artists by Youth Music last year found that 63% saw AI as a useful tool in their arsenal.

Soundplate’s survey wasn’t just about AI though: it also has a finding on how musicians are collaborating with other humans. 69.2% of those surveyed said they’d collaborated with an artist they’d never met in person.
