5 POTENTIAL COLLABORATIONS CERTIFIED DOPE

Share

The Nigerian hip-hop scene is no stranger to critically acclaimed collaboration albums; Lost and Found‘s (Boogey and Paybac Iboro) ‘Face Off‘ (2016) and ‘Alternate Ending‘ (2018), A-Q M.I‘s 2020 ‘Live Report‘.

We at Rhyme & Reason® decided to compile a possible list of collaboration projects we believe will have success critically and/or commercially if it happens.

  1. Show Dem Camp x Ladipoe

SDC has continued to show range in concept and topics over the years since they first came into the scene in the 2000s, and their lyrical prowess, clever delivery, and ear for sound will already give them an edge critically. Ladipoe on the other hand had a good 2020 commercially with his romantic single, Know You, with Simi. His polished delivery, penmanship, and range will definitely move the album towards more critical acclaim, and a bit of commercial success. Not forgetting that these emcees have not missed so far in all their previous collaborations.

2. Vector x A-Q

A collaboration by this duo would be a festival of punchlines and bars. Even years after the release, interpretations would still be pulled out from their verses. They are both skilled lyrically, and a project by both emcees will definitely be a critically acclaimed one, and probably a hip-hop classic at that. Although the state of their relationship since the release of Distraction 2  is unknown, and we don’t know if the M.I – Vector beef squash was encompassing of everyone involved or just both rappers.

3. FALZ x Reminisce

This collaboration has commercial success written all over it, even though both rappers come hard on beats that dictate them to be. Their ability to deliver comically, use of puns, topics on social issues, and being serious when we be put together in one single project. It will certainly do numbers in weeks, and few of the tracks will go on to become hip-hop classics.

4. Phlow x Alpha Ojini

The queen of flow and the ‘fvcking genius’ would definitely deliver a project that would be talke about for years to come in the hip-hop community. Ojini’s  sophoremore album, Chvmeleon was so critically acclaimed, it earned him a spot at the emcee’s table. His twitter series, #QuickBars also shows his drastic development lyrically and production wise. A collaboration by both will do well critically and might perform averagely commercially, but it will be talked about for a while.

5. Modenine x M.I

This here is every rap head’s wet dreams, and it will be pointless writing out the essence or benefits of this collaboration. Rumours of a collaboraton being underway where later debunked by Modo‘s instagram posts during the lockdown of 2020. We can only hope it is now behind the, and they put the culture ahead of their respective ego, respectfully written.
