If there is one piece of clothing that has shown much resilience over the years, it’s the jeans.
Jeanswear has come a long way. It was initially designed as workwear for miners and laborers before it evolved into mainstream fashion as we see it today.

The answer to the question, “Should I get another pair of jeans?” is always “Yes.” A resounding yes!
Having jeans is all fine and good until it’s time to style it. Many women find it difficult to wear their jeans. Any item of clothing that is that versatile needs to be styled when you are wearing them. Jeans is not just jeans oh!
If you want to look like a stylish queen and not some plain Ada trying to survive (who looks like what she is going through), you need to know how to style your jeans.
Without stressing your creative side of the brain, dear ladies, this article will provide you with tips on how to style your jeans based on their cut and designs, ranging from skinny to flare.
Let’s begin!
How to Style Different Kinds of Jeans
Jeans come in different shapes and sizes. Some big, some form-fitting. In this article, we categorize jeans according to their shape since we are all about form today. There are four major kinds of jeans you will find, and here is how to style them.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are one of the most popular pairs of jeans out there. Maybe it is because it looks great on every body type or size. I can swear you have one in your wardrobe right now.
If you must know, skinny jeans descended from breeches. They were earlier spotted in the courts of the king of France and then made their way to England. Skinny jeans would enter street fashion when James Dean and Marlon Brando started to wear them in the 1950s.
How to style
Because of the simplicity of these jeans, you can style them with a statement jacket or jumper to give your ensemble a little attitude. You can also wear your skinny jeans with a long cardigan for a more comfortable and laid-back look. If you want to look more modern and stylish look, pair your skinny with a blouse or a button-down shirt in a French tuck.
The slim shape of these jeans makes them a great fit with boots—ankle boots or tall boots. Pointed-toe stilettos will formalize your style, and sneakers will tone it down to smart casual.
Flared Jeans
Flared jeans give off some sass, which I love. It is a great pair of jeans to own if you seeking to elongate your legs. Hourglass or pear-shaped, flared jeans look good on all body types and add a bit of oomph to your look, especially if they are snug at the waist and hips. For more on body types, check out this post.
We have to thank the U.S. Navy for this one. Sailors had begun to wear flared pants because they did not have uniforms yet. The pants widened into bell bottoms at the heel, allowing the sailors to roll them up easily to avoid water and to also take the jeans off without removing their boots. Flared pants were popularized late in the 19th century when disco rolled around.
How to style
To style your pair of flared jeans, pair them with fitted tops or blouses. Blouses should be tucked in fully to emphasize your waist. You can also pair your flared jeans with a cropped top and layer an oversized blazer over the look to give off smart casual.
For a chic look, pair your jeans with a slim-fitted top tucked in and a cropped jacket that sits perfectly on your waist. Pair your jeans with high-heeled shoes, like pumps or wedges, to support the length of your legs.
Mom Jeans
The mom jeans have been in existence since the 1980s. It was named ‘mom jeans’ as they were jeans mostly worn by suburban moms. However, with its comeback, these jeans are now worn by women of all ages.
A high waist, pleated front, and tapered legs characterize the mom jeans. It is a plus-size woman’s favorite as it defines the waist and has tapered legs to highlight the length of the legs.
How to style
A smart blazer works very well with the mom jeans. So does a good-looking waist-length cardigan. You can pair your mom jeans with a statement top for a boho chic look or just stick with a good white blouse or button-down t-shirt.
For footwear, these jeans can be worn with Chelsea boots, block-heeled boots, sneakers, stilettos, loafers, or mules.
High Waisted Jeans
The high waisted jeans are one of my favourites because of what it does for the waist (I mean, who doesn’t love a snatched waist😉). It is also very easy to style since it looks good on all women. I have never seen a woman look bad in high waisted jeans.
Levi’s, the jeans company, started making high waisted jeans in the 1940s when women joined the workforce. The high waist allowed the women to bend over and retain their ‘modesty’ while they worked in the fields and in the factories.
Highcome skinny or flared cuts. There really is no reason to lack a pair of high waisted jeans in your closet. If you don’t, please buy one that fits well on your waist and is not gaping on any side.
How to style
To style these, opt for crop tops/jackets and blouses or waist-length cardigans that are tucked in when paired with high-waisted jeans to accentuate the waist fully.
Final tip…
All kinds of jeans can be stylishly accessorized with a belt or silk scarf around the waist. You can further spice your ensemble with a layered statement necklace or opt for understated pieces of jewelry. Don’t forget to accessorize with light jewelry and a structured handbag.
With these few tips, I confidently release you to go rock your world with those fine jeans.
