Snap (Snapchat’s parent company) launched Snapchat+ in 9 countries yesterday. Snapchat+ is a new subscription tier that will cost users $3.99 a month, and offer “a collection of exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features” to subscribers. At the moment, the exclusive features are minor; pinning a favourite friend at the top of your chat screen, or seeing who rewatched your stories. The 9 countries are the UK, USA, Canada, Germany, France, Australia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and New Zealand.
This move is seen as one to gain stakeholders’ confidence, as the 332 million daily activities app saw its stock prices drop after a revenue warning in May.
The Verge says this new tier will not remove ads for the users.
