Since the COVID-19 Pandemic restricts, live-streamed concerts are having a space of their own within the big music streaming services. Tencent Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music add Twitch into its app, Apple Music has hosted album launch via livestreams with select artists, and MelodyVR’s x Napster merger bring on-demand streaming and livestreams under one roof.
Spotify is making an entry into the livestreams space. Working together with Driift, this project is called “virtual concert experiences.” The name was consciously selected as the first block of performances won’t be live, rather they’ll be “prerecorded livestreams.” The Black Keys, Rag’n’Bone Man, Bleachers, Leon Bridges, and Girl in Red are the first five artists involved in the shows, between 27 May and 24 June. The tickets go for $15 and a promised 40-75minutes sets to viewers. Spotify will send notifications to fans of those artists to buy tickets for the virtual experience.
This is all being run on a spotify.live website and only Spotify account holders can tune in to this concert. The shows will also not be available for on-demand viewing afterward.
